Margarita Wolf/ Roland Verwiebe/ Lena Seewann: Where and How Are Our Values Formed? Current Results of a Mixed-Methods-Study in Austria

This article asks, where and how individual human values are being formed. A current mixed-methods-project at the University of Vienna analyzes processes that influence and develop values on the basis of eight focus group discussions and a representative survey of 1,519 Austrian respondents. So far, previous studies investigated value formation mostly during the socialization processes or in intended educational measures (e. g., schools). However, our results indicate that individual values emerge in many different areas of life and experience (for example, family or integration in work life). The development of individual values seems to be a complex process that extends to many areas of life and needs to be further examined in different contexts.
