Zehra Özkececi: The Perspectives of Turkish Journalism – A Balancing Act Between Limited Freedom of the Press and Limited Alternatives

In Turkey, the times for free media and independent journalists have become harder since the failed coup attempt in 2016, after emergency law was introduced and oppositionists were exposed to the general suspicion to support terrorist organizations and/ or putschists. Based on this state of emergency, the article is asking for alternatives in the current situation. Therefore, (1) the situation of the Turkish media before the accession of the AKP to government and (2) limitations of freedom of media, of the press and of opinion in Western democracies in general are being considered, in order to assess into which directions the Turkish media could develop in the future.
