Anna Faustmann: The Role of Leisure Clubs for the Social Integration of Migrants in Austria

This article analyses the integration potential of leisure clubs in Austria and their role for the social integration of migrants. For this purpose, sociological integration theories and international research findings, but also secondary statistical analyses based on the representative surveys ISSP 2007, SHARE 2011 und 2015 have been examined further. The results verify the important role of club participation for social integration, however show also that the socially inclusive character of club participation particularly effects people without migration background. The reasons for this are to be found in (internal and external) exclusion mechanisms, but also in self-selection mechanisms in context of club participation of migrants.
